Job description

This is a chance to bring your technical expertise to the William Hill US Product Development team. We're driving our exciting US business and technology expansion with potential future opportunities in the US, in line with new legislation and the ongoing rollout of sports betting.

About us

We make a huge investment in everyone, offering great career development opportunities. Our people are at the heart of everything we do and we offer a fast-paced environment where we have fun, celebrate success and give you all the tools you’ll need to be your best self. It’s not just our colleagues we look after – we’ve got a responsibility to our customers too and we work hard on our ambition that nobody is harmed by gambling.

Your role in the team

Based in Leeds and reporting to Head of Tech for US, you'll work with IT project teams in Leeds and the US. We work in the  ever-changing growth business of US Sports Betting with a focus on Retail technology (Kiosks, EPOS and Omnichannel features) and as part of this team, you'll work closely with technical leaders and technical teams to assess existing problems and design effective solutions through automation.

We're looking for an experienced engineer to lead the delivery of the key components of quality Devops alongside our software development teams. This includes Continuous Integration and Delivery (CI/CD), Continuous Development, Testing and Monitoring. It's important that you can deliver results in all these areas. We're deploying to public cloud (AWS) and to physical data centres as part of our “cloud first” deployment strategy, but keep in mind that we have to have key services physically hosted in state.

We'll expect you to identify and resolve bottlenecks in the software development life cycle (SDLC) as we look to drive great digital product to our new US market. You'll have the opportunity to define and promote build coding standardisation and automation processes to help us scale out our new US platform with increasing speed. Infrastructure as Code is key to our success. In this role you'll be a key player in the wider US Devops community, to help build and deploy our latest US Sports Betting platform technology.

Skills and experience

Essential:

  • You're a seasoned DevOps practitioner with hands-on experience of AWS services and AWS architecture, including migrations and / or launching new systems or applications
  • Hands-on experience with  Docker, Kubernetes, Helm and Jenkins
  • Excellent scripting skills, ideally in Python, but Bash or Pearl would be good alternatives.

Desirable:

  • Hands-on experience with Istio, Terraform and Gitlab-CI
  • Some knowledge of networking technologies such as F5 WAF and other firewall technologies
  • Experience with private Cloud

As you can see, we enjoy using lots of technologies, and we welcome people who are likeminded, keen to learn and enjoy experimenting with tech and bringing new ideas. If you're keen to learn and brush up on your existing skills, you'll fit right in.

Our culture is collaborative, agile and focused on continuous improvement. You'll need to bring great communication skills and the desire to get involved, challenge and solve problems with simple solutions.

What we offer

We’ll welcome you on-board with 25 days holiday (not to mention 8 bank holidays and an extra day for your birthday), a rewarding bonus scheme, healthcare, an attractive pension package, healthy gym discounts and a staff benefits scheme. Plus, our season ticket loan and handy Metro Card loan will save you money getting to work and getting around town. And if you see the journey to work as part of your fitness regime, you’ll just love our Cycle to Work scheme.

William Hill in Leeds

Right in the middle of the creative heart of the UK sits our Leeds office. Leeds itself is a buzzy, busy place to work and live. A hub for tech, digital and gaming companies – there’s also five universities right on our doorstep. And away from work, we’re close to the Yorkshire Dales and of course have got a competitive sports scene with Leeds United and Yorkshire Cricket and Rugby just up the road in Headingley
