Job description

You help us decide how this is going to work

Typically, your day as a Senior Java Developer will involve a number of challenges. Like, building high performing and highly scalable systems. Ensuring it operates smoothly in real-time. Constantly testing and improving to make sure we stay out in front of the competition. In other words: engineering top-quality digital experiences and much more for our retail customers across the country.

Your role in the team
Working with the newest tech, including Kafka and Amazon Web Services, you’ll play a leading role in our agile Retail Tech family. By reviewing technology you'll help us keep pace with our dynamic industry. You'll get to work on projects which are reimagining the architecture of our shops, and the tech to bring it to life. By helping us to develop our in-store IT gadgets, like our self-service betting terminals, you also get to say, “I did that”, as you stroll (slowly) past our shop windows.

Being a senior engineer, you’ll have the space to put your ideas into action, advising and being inspired by your teammates. Spending quality time working with junior developers encouraging them and giving them the skills they need to excel.

Skills needed
We’re looking for an excellent teammate with strong Java 8 skills. Additionally, exposure to the following will help set you apart:

              Spring, Microservices, AWS and TDD

Real-time, high performance and scalable systems

What we Offer
In addition to the benefits you expect, like healthcare and company pension, we’ll welcome you on board with 25 days holiday (not to mention 8 bank holidays and an extra day for your birthday) and proper flexible working, where HR leave it up to us to agree on what works. There is also your own Learning Fund to aid your development, a rewarding bonus scheme and gym discounts.

Plus, our season ticket loan and handy Metro Card loan will save you money getting to work and getting around town. If you see the journey to work as part of your fitness regime, you’ll just love our Cycle to Work scheme.

William Hill in Leeds
Right in the middle of the creative centre of the UK sit both of our newly refurbished Leeds offices. They are both a short walk from the train station, and have easy access to the bus routes. Leeds itself is a buzzy, busy place to be. A hub for tech, digital and gaming companies – there’s also five universities right on our doorstep.

Away from work, we’re the Gateway to the amazing Yorkshire Dales. We have, of course got an active sports scene with Leeds United at Elland Road. Also, Yorkshire Cricket, Rugby Union and League are just up the road in Headingley.

We offer a dynamic environment where we have fun, celebrate success and give you all the tools you’ll need to be your best self.
