Cloud Engineer

I’m interested

Job description

Engineering without boundaries.

Here at William Hill we want our Cloud Engineers to be able to take control, so we work to the principle, “if you can do it, crack on and do it.” If you love the flash of a command line prompt and take great pride in connecting all the jigsaw pieces of an IT service, we think you’ll fit in well here. We're currently migrating our infrastructure to AWS and want you to join us on this journey.  Our expansion into the USA is challenging us to build new infrastructure and design new ways of storing data.

About us

With over 16,000 people worldwide, we make a huge investment in everyone, offering great career development opportunities. Our people are at the heart of everything we do and we offer a fast-paced environment where we have fun, celebrate success and give you all the tools you’ll need to be your best self. It’s not just our colleagues we look after – we’ve got a responsibility to our customers too and we work hard on our ambition that nobody is harmed by gambling.

Your role in the team

All this variety means that no two days are the same. You’ll help us deliver new projects through IT strategic change. This includes making sure our infrastructure and applications are running smoothly and any errors are fixed. Working closely with support teams and hardware suppliers you’ll deliver high quality environments. You’ll have an opportunity to enhance your technical skills across a wide range of areas and work with new technology. We’re looking for the type of Engineer who’s enthusiastic about automating everything. You can quickly diagnose and resolve connectivity problems, you can spot why a server is behaving badly in a heartbeat, and you can collaborate with developers to resolve code vs infrastructure conflicts.

Skills Needed.

You’ll have experience in AWS or exposure within a similar public cloud service. You’ll have demonstrable knowledge of Linux System administration in a complex data centre environment. Experience in deploying application servers and familiar with NodeJs, Containers, MQ and SOAP application troubleshooting is also essential for the role. If you have a good knowledge of scripting languages such as Perl, P24×7 high-availability production environment ruby, python and Terraform this will give you a good platform for success in this role. Hardware Security Module (HSM) management experience is a nice set of skills to have as well for the role but we do recognise the talent that doesn’t have these set of ‘nice to haves’.

If you haven’t used these in the workplace but take an active interest in your own time, link us to your GitHub and show us what you’re made of. We’re interested in your potential. We work in a Devops culture and are adopting Agile methodologies too. It would be great if you’re familiar with these ways of working and can share your expertise

What we offer

Your 25 days holiday is topped up by 12 bank holidays and we offer you a generous pension, Healthcare and Life Assurance as standard. Gym discounts, and our office sports and social committee activities could be right up your street. We’ve got an excellent relocation package to support you should you make the move; English is the local language but we can help you and your family with Spanish lessons
