Job description

Data Solutions Architect

As a Data Solutions Architect, you will be a driving force for transformations in the data capabilities of William Hill. You will be designing and deploying a market leading, cloud-based data platform, supporting a number of key initiatives within the business strategy. These initiatives are aimed at moving towards a data driven operating model that will place customer needs at the forefront of our products and services.

About Us

We make a huge investment in everyone, offering great career development opportunities. Our people are at the heart of everything we do, and we offer a fast-paced environment where we have fun, celebrate success and give you all the tools you’ll need to be your best self. It’s not just our colleagues we look after – we’ve got a responsibility to our customers too and we work hard on our ambition that nobody is harmed by gambling.

Your role in the team

You will develop and maintain the data technical roadmap capturing AS-IS and TO-BE vision. This must be presented / circulated to senior stakeholders, and you'll work with the key business personnel to identify solutions that will provide the best return possible for William Hill.

You'll be responsible for ensuring the assigned projects follow the overall architectural strategy and processes, and also responsible for the end-to-end solutions design and implementation of assigned projects.

You'll lead and participate in architectural reviews of software, infrastructure, data and other architectures, verifying the implementation of assigned projects, ensuring the delivered system is consistent with the agreed architecture and will meet the requirements.

You'll ensure that deployed technology is always appropriate to meet the current and planned future needs of the business, also ensuring all data systems meet processing, storage and network capacity and performance requirements, to meet the current and evolving business need in a cost effective and timely manner.

We'll rely on your guidance on opportunities for technical adoption supporting the channel’s business targets. Working in partnership with project managers, development managers and developers, you'll make sure teams are able to realise the architecture.  Your communication style will enable you to explain the architecture to a variety of audiences with differing levels of technical understanding.

Skills needed

We'd like to see a demonstrable  track record of delivering an architecture service on projects that span multi-disciplinary areas, preferably working with business customers. It's essential that you have sound overall knowledge of application capabilities, integration and industry best practices. We're looking for 4+ years' experience with deep understanding in both traditional and modern data architecture and processing concepts. This includes relational databases (e.g. Redshift, Snowflake), data warehousing, big data (e.g. Hadoop, Spark, Fink) and NoSQL (Redis, Mongo, Dynamo).

This role would suit a Solution Architect with a good grounding in the above architectural principals. A cloud data warehousing background with a good understanding of AWS would stand you in good stead from a technical point of view.

You'll be able to articulate your personal success in consultative or complex technical deployment projects, including managing various stakeholder relationships to get consensus on solutions, and how you employ your excellent verbal and written technical communications skills.

It would be beneficial if you have led or been a member of an Agile or scaled Agile team. A good understanding of data security and Data protection (PCI, PII, GDPR awareness) would be beneficial, as would general regulatory and compliance experience. From a personal point of view, you'll fit well into our team if you have strong customer focus and can establish effective relationships.  It's also beneficial if you have the ability to keep strategic focus whilst dealing tactically with day to day issues.
