Your role in the team


As an experienced Data Engineer /Tech Lead you'll be designing, building and maintaining DataMarts, tools and front end / back end process on-prem, and using our cloud-based platform to power the insight from our specialist in-house Econometrics team.  There will be an opportunity to work closely with the Econometricians. Data Scientists, and BI team in addition to building in automation as the capabilities mature.

Your responsibilities will include:


  • Owning the relationship with Data Architecture/Engineering and the Econometrics/Data Science team relating to requirements and best practice approach to structuring data assets required to provide the most robust insight.  
  • Improving and automating existing processes, as well extensive data quality QA across numerous large and complex data sources and transformations.  
  • Documentation of all process and implementations to allow for auditing and posterity as well as experience in writing well designed, testable, efficient code which follows good coding standards.  
  • Diagnosing technical faults on big data platform services which are built on numerous platforms like AWS, Airflow & Snowflake to name a few.  
  • Line management and shaping the careers of junior team members.  


Skills and experience 


This role will suit you if you've lived and breathed machine learning and data engineering in a customer focused, digital environment, and have developed a strong skillset which will allow you to mentor and develop your colleagues. A numerate or data related degree/qualification is highly desirable.

We're looking for an advanced level of coding using an array of languages like SQL, Python, R, as well as Excel and Power BI. Strong knowledge of JIRA (or other project management tools) and GIT-workflows are essential. Exposure to AWS (or other cloud platforms) and data-pipeline patterns on cloud would make your application stand out.


You must be able to understand complex data structures and systems but also be able to communicate in a simple concise manner to a non-technical audience. You must also be confident driving improvements in KPI’s (code quality best practice, defects, performance, and resilience).

It would be great to see an understanding of Gaming, Gambling and typical nuances of data and structures that are part and parcel of the industry.   We'd also benefit from your experience in supporting statistical teams in data delivery as well as any exposure to Statistics and/or Econometrics and/or Data Science.
