I’m interested

Leeds, UK

Job description

24/7 systems across a global digital business

As you can expect from one of the world’s leading betting and gaming companies, the William Hill technology landscape is complex, fast-changing and critical to the success of the business.

About us

Our people are at the heart of everything we do, and we offer a fast-paced environment where we have fun, celebrate success and give you all the tools you’ll need to be your best self. It’s not just our colleagues we look after - we’ve got a responsibility to our customers too and we work hard on our ambition that nobody is harmed by gambling.

Your role in the team

We are a lively team of individuals with experience in Windows & Linux based Infrastructure delivery. You'll join us in building, maintaining, scaling and delivering the server infrastructure, managing data centre resources, IT processes and technologies across William Hill International. You'll help to manage the entire infrastructure life cycle and identify improvements in system capabilities, capacity, performance, speed of deployment and service quality.

You’ll also be helping with deployments to application stack, handling patching and maintenance to our environments as well as helping in future projects that affect our infrastructure.

You'll ensure operating systems are patched and maintain PCI compliance, working with our colleagues in Security and Audit to accurately report. We love sharing knowledge and take pride in managing our workload using DevOPS principles and Agile working practices, and while this may be new to us we actively seek out learning opportunities, aiming to have at least 10% of our time dedicated to learning.

Skills Needed

If you are a specialist in Windows system administration and have an interest in learning AWS, you could fit right in. We need you to have past experience in the administration and management of IT Infrastructure based on Windows provisioned in VMware vSphere. Practical experience in any of the following would be a significant advantage: Powershell scripting, automation using Rundeck & the Commvault Enterprise backup solution.

It would be great if you're familiar with agile ways of working and can contribute to our Agile Sprint planning processes, and ideally, you've worked (or want to work) closely with developers in a DevOps environment. An awareness of IT compliance and audit regulations would be beneficial too.

You'll learn to use tools such as Ansible, GIT, Terraform, so if you already have exposure to these, even better. You'll need to show willingness to learn with us on our technical journey, then share that knowledge with those who follow.

A significant portion of our infrastructure is Linux Server based so any experience there, while not essential would be beneficial. Training can be provided. Experience configuring Cisco or HPE network infrastructure would also be an advantage but again is not an essential for the role.

You'll join our on-call rota to ensure we can offer support whenever and wherever it's needed, so some out-of-hours flexibility is required. The office base for this role is Leeds, but we can set you up to work from home as long as you're able to come into the office when required.

What we offer

We take the safety and wellbeing of our employees seriously, especially at this challenging time. We have put in place robust Covid19 measures and are supporting our new employees with a smooth remote onboarding and training programme to make you feel welcome and part of our team.

We have welcomed our teams back to the office and have a balanced approach to office and home working.  Our employees have the opportunity to work from home up to 80% of the time with 20% of office time built in to ensure we get some face-to-face collaborative team time - and the chance for a coffee and a catch up!

We’ll welcome you on-board with 25 days holiday (not to mention 8 bank holidays and an extra day for your birthday), a rewarding bonus scheme, healthcare, an attractive pension package and benefits scheme. Plus, our season ticket loan and handy Metro Card loan will save you money getting to work and getting around town. And if you see the journey to work as part of your fitness regime, you’ll just love our Cycle to Work scheme.

William Hill in Leeds

Our Leeds office sits right in the middle of the creative heart of the UK. Leeds itself is a buzzy, busy place to work and live. A hub for tech, digital and gaming companies – there’s also five universities right on our doorstep. And away from work, we’re in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales and of course have got a competitive sports scene with Leeds United and Yorkshire Cricket and Rugby just up the road in Headingley.
