Job description

Redefining retail technology

We’ve got big plans for our betting shops. We’re moving to a digital world, away from legacy technology, embracing the new. We create embedded software in tangible products that are enjoyed by millions of customers, and support our colleagues by introducing new tech to their day to day work environment. We’re proud to be the driving force behind the changing face of high street betting and gaming.

About us

With over 16,000 people worldwide, we make a huge investment in everyone, offering great career development opportunities. Our people are at the heart of everything we do and we offer a fast-paced environment where we have fun, celebrate success and give you all the tools you’ll need to be your best self. It’s not just our colleagues we look after – we’ve got a responsibility to our customers too and we work hard on our ambition that nobody is harmed by gambling.

Your role in the team

You’ll lead a team of Leeds based Solution and Data Architects. You’ll create the technical roadmap that will underpin our long term Retail strategy, own the architectural landscape, and bring the transition plan to life.

It’s up to you to gather requirements, finding solutions that will work for our business, shops and customers.  You’ll have close relationships with the Retail Director, Product Owners and Retail Operations. So you must be able to communicate your technical vision in a language they’ll understand.  It’s important that you’re already a senior / lead architect (making you a credible and inspiring leader) as you’ll make development and architectural decisions that will have an impact. You’ll also bring your team will you, coaching, mentoring and managing towards strong delivery.

You’re no shrinking violet - a confident and robust character, you’ll be diplomatic, but not afraid to challenge and debate with colleagues. A background in software development (preferably Java) from a high transactional, high availability environment like finance, connected technology (internet of things)  or high-profile e-commerce would be ideal.  We’re adopting AWS at scale and ahead of our competitors. So we’d like you to have some working knowledge of public cloud. We’re on an agile journey too, so your skills in this area will add great value.

What we offer

We’ll welcome you on-board with 25 days holiday (not to mention 8 bank holidays and an extra day for your birthday), a rewarding bonus scheme, healthcare (or a cash alternative), an attractive pension package, life assurance, healthy gym discounts and a flexible benefits scheme. Plus, our season ticket loan and handy Metro Card loan will save you money getting to work and getting around town. And if you see the journey to work as part of your fitness regime, you’ll just love our Cycle to Work scheme.

William Hill in Leeds

Right in the middle of the creative heart of the UK sit both of our Leeds offices. Leeds itself is a buzzy, busy place to work and live. A hub for tech, digital and gaming companies – there’s also five universities right on our doorstep. And away from work, we’re in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales and of course have got a competitive sports scene with Leeds United and Yorkshire Cricket and Rugby just up the road in Headingly.

Join us #behindthebet and you’ll be part of an international architecture community of practice with opportunities for global career progression.
