Job description

Consult, collaborate and kick off our automation strategy.

As a Network Architect at William Hill you’ll be immersed in an exciting and fast paced environment, operating a secure, scalable and high performance network connecting our UK and international sites.  We’re in the middle of a technology shift, so simplification and automation are high on our agenda. Using your passion to make a real difference, you’ll have significant input into our 3 year network automation strategy.

You’ll join a dedicated team of networking professionals who live and breathe technology, seeing your vision transition through to production.  You’ll build relationships with colleagues across our technology team to gather and understand their aspirations, challenges and requirements. You can influence our choices when it comes to implementing new tech and you’ll see tangible outcomes from the work you put in.

Your architecture and high level infrastructure design skills are second to none. You ideally have experience from enterprise-level organisations that are fast moving and results driven. Large retail, global E-commerce systems and/or real-time trading environments will get our attention. Here, you can look forward to enabling service-provider orchestration techniques and public cloud automation principles, so we’d like you to bring your experience of these challenges to the table.

You must demonstrate in-depth technical knowledge of Cisco and VMware products and technologies, including (but not limited to) Catalyst VSS, Nexus 5K/2K and 9K NX-OS, Firepower/ASA firewalls, ASR1K and 9K routing platforms as well as F5 Big-IP products. Deep working knowledge of network protocols, software and standards is a must. Be prepared, as we may quiz you on tech such as MPLS L2/L3 VPN, hierarchical QoS, MP-BGP, VXLAN and complex multi-area OSPF designs. Having recently invested in Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI), VMware NSX and public cloud services, we’re eager to meet people who have used these technologies in production environments.

Knowledge and/or experience with wider network automation and orchestration techniques, RESTful APIs and public cloud services would be great too as we seek to build capability with and exploit configuration management and automation tooling such as Ansible and Python. We aspire to offer network APIs to other teams – perhaps you can make this happen.

You can bring a thorough understanding of architectural design principles and pragmatic usage of architectural frameworks. You must be a strong written and verbal communicator with excellent business acumen. You must be able to skilfully influence people (including senior leaders) and be able to effortlessly translate complex technical concepts to other non-technical audiences.
