St Johns

Job description

Do you have a passion for Security Design?

William Hill is looking for an experienced Network & Security Design Specialist to join us as a Technical subject matter expert within the Product & Tech area.

About us

Our people are at the heart of everything we do, and we offer a fast-paced environment where we have fun, celebrate success and give you all the tools you’ll need to be your best self. It’s not just our colleagues we look after - we’ve got a responsibility to our customers too and we work hard on our ambition that nobody is harmed by gambling. Sustainability is key to the future of our business and the people we interact with on a daily basis.

What you will be doing

  • The successful candidate will be immersed in an exciting and fast paced environment, where they will be responsible for both the delivery and support of the core network infrastructure. We are looking for passionate individuals who are looking to make a difference in a dynamic team working with cutting edge technology.
  • You will become a key role within the network team, working alongside Architecture, Network Engineering and Information Security. You will contribute towards high level network architectures, design principles, methodologies and technical standards. You will collaborate with the team to help us investigate and develop new and emerging network technologies that help us provide new network services to our internal customers, quicker, and more efficiently.
  • You will own low level network design artifacts, producing high quality documentation and configuration templates that align our network infrastructure to the overarching network strategy and known industry best practices. You will provide consultative and collaborative technical expertise to the Engineering teams and Project Managers to ensure project-led deliverables are fit for purpose and consistent with our ratified technical standards.
  • You will help mentor less experienced members of the team, contributing to detailed impact analysis and implementation planning where necessary, helping to disseminate knowledge and technical experience into the Engineering team. You will also have to communicate complex technical detail in abstract form to non-technical colleagues.
  • You will form part of the technical escalation team, working with peers in the enterprise and technology teams to ensure mission critical systems and revenue generating services are stable, reliable and resilient, operating within agreed service levels at all times. This may from time to time involve being called out of hours. You will help ensure we have sufficient capacity within the network infrastructure to support the business throughout the calendar year.
  • You will help us operate the network with a service-based, customer-first approach, to ensure we are providing high quality network, security and connectivity services to all our internal colleagues and customers. We place just as much emphasis placed on good customer service as there is on technical capability.

What we expect from you

  • We'd like to see a minimum of 7 years technical hands-on experience working in a Network & Security operational and/or delivery role within similarly sized organisations that are fast moving, dynamic and results driven. Experience working in organisations that operate large retail, global E-commerce systems and/or real-time trading environments will get our attention.
  • Holding a Cisco CCNP and/or CCSP or similar qualification, you will bring in-depth technical knowledge of Cisco products and technologies to the table, including (but not limited to) Catalyst 4K/6K VSS, Nexus 9K/5K/2K, Firepower/ASA firewalls, as well as CheckPoint firewall appliances and F5 LTM/ASM capability.
  • We'd like to see someone with practical experience of advanced routing, switching, security and load balancing systems across global network and data centre infrastructures that underpins your Cisco qualifications. Example technologies include but are not limited to LACP, VPC, MST, MPLS L2 and L3 VPN, VXLAN, MP-BGP and EBGP peering, EIGRP and multi-area OSPF designs. Experience with Cisco IOS-XR (e.g. ASR9K) would also be great.
  • It is essential that the successful candidate has strong knowledge and experience with wider network automation and orchestration techniques. Having spent several years preparing for next-gen network technology (e.g. Cisco ACI, VMware NSX, VMware VMC and AWS), we're now looking to push our team capabilities to the next level via configuration management tooling such as Ansible, Puppet, Terraform and automation to improve our workflows and increase our rate of change. We want to expose APIs into our services for other teams to consume and achieve outcomes for themselves, and we need help to continue our software defined journey.
  • We take IT security seriously at William Hill so understanding of PCI-DSS and other data protection laws is advantageous

This role will be for you if

  • You can effectively communicate complex technical concepts to peers, but also in abstract form to aid colleagues who may not have your background.
  • You can analyse and disseminate information quickly, accurately and succinctly.
  • You are results driven, maintaining laser-sharp focus on customer outcomes, and not afraid of making things happen.
  • You thrive under pressure within a dynamic and agile organisation that may require you to keep multiple plates spinning simultaneously.

What we offer

We take the safety and wellbeing of our employees seriously, especially at this challenging time. We have put in place robust Covid19 measures and are supporting our new employees with a smooth onboarding and training programme and making you feel welcome and part of our team.
We’ve welcomed our teams back to the office and have a balanced approach to office and home working.  Here, you’ll have the opportunity to work from home up to 80% of the time with 20% office time built in to ensure we get some face-to-face collaborative team time - and the chance for a coffee and a catch up.
