Job description

Bridge the gap between Engineering and Architecture

Our Network team play a vital part in keeping our systems available to customers however, whenever and wherever they want to place a bet. We can’t have our website crashing in the middle of the Grand National – so we need you to help us find solutions to this type of problem.

Working alongside Network Engineering and Information Security, you’ll look at what our Architects are trying to achieve and make sure the nuts and bolts work from an engineering point of view. Your design and engineering expertise will help you translate great architecture into something that works for our tech teams and our customers.

You’re an experienced techie who likes to be empowered to make decisions. This role will allow you to work with architecture, but stay hands on and make changes at engineer level. If you’re looking for a step up from an engineering role, this could be the ideal position for you. We'd like to see extensive technical hands-on experience working in a Network and Security operational and/or delivery role within similarly sized organisations that are customer focused and results driven. Experience working with large retail, global E-commerce systems and/or real-time trading environments will get our attention. As well as technical skills, your stakeholder management skills will be important in helping you speak to the right people to get things done.

Holding a Cisco CCNP and/or CCSP or similar qualification, you’ll bring in-depth technical knowledge of Cisco products and technologies to the table, including (but not limited to) Catalyst 4K/6K VSS, Nexus 9K/5K/2K, Firepower/ASA firewalls, as well as CheckPoint firewall appliances and F5 LTM/ASM capability. Any experience with Cisco IOS-XR (e.g. ASR9K) would also be great.

We'd like to see  practical experience of advanced routing, switching, security and load balancing systems across global network and data centre infrastructures that underpins your Cisco qualifications. Example technologies include but are not limited to LACP, VPC, MST, MPLS L2 and L3 VPN, VXLAN, MP-BGP and EBGP peering, EIGRP and multi-area OSPF designs.

We’ll be especially interested if you have knowledge and experience with wider network automation and orchestration techniques. Having spent several years preparing for next-gen network technology (e.g. Cisco ACI, VMware NSX), we’re now looking to push our team capabilities to the next level via configuration management tooling such as Ansible, Puppet and automation to improve our workflows and to increase our rate of change. We want to expose APIs into our services for other teams to consume and achieve outcomes for themselves, and need help to begin our software defined journey.

We take IT security seriously at William Hill so understanding of PCI-DSS and other data protection laws is advantageous.
