Job description

This is an exciting time to join the Retail business as it invests in innovative technologies to transform operations and customer experience. ¬As part of the Retail Technology department, the Architecture team are the focal point for technology innovation, strategy and design work.

Retail Architecture team members lead by example and are expected to work with pace, pride and professionalism at all times. To fit into this fast-moving team, you’ll always put your customers first, keep your commitments, have a can-do attitude and, using your excellent communication skills, be comfortable taking the lead when necessary.

Your role in the team

As the Solution Architect, you will be a member of the team and will be responsible for consulting with all levels of the business to recommend, define and plan delivery of innovative solutions or improvements that meet business needs. You will also support work to manage the technology roadmap and provide advice to help inform strategy.

Key responsibilities:

·       Engaging with all relevant stakeholders to elicit business objectives and relevant requirements

·       Translate business requirements into high quality solution designs that meet business needs

·       Applying research, analysis and relevant industry knowledge to develop appropriate solution recommendations

·       Assuring solutions are fit for purpose, cost effective and adhere to relevant standards/regulation

·       Documenting solution architectures highlighting associated risks and technical debt where necessary

·       Gaining approval for solutions through the relevant governance processes

·       Effectively communicating the solution architectures to the business and technology colleagues

·       Collaborating with teams, throughout the development lifecycle, to ensure alignment and, as subject matter expert, support successful delivery

Skills required:

·       Demonstrated experience working as Solution Architect and the related processes, methods and tools

·       Excellent communication skills; you must enjoy explaining technical concepts to technical people and business alike

·       Significant experience working with Agile software development teams and a good understanding of related practises

·       Significant experience defining complex web application architectures and high throughput, low latency software solutions

·       Experience with cloud technologies, notably AWS, and demonstrable knowledge of cloud migration strategies/tactics

·       Experience with big data and demonstrable knowledge relating to the application of Machine Learning technologies

·       Broad technical experience including: Linux, Git, Gitlab, Node.JS, Java, Spring (Boot), Scala, React, Redux, relational and NoSQL databases, virtualization technologies especially Docker and its ecosystem EG., Kubernetes.
